Kylie's bathroom in Melton South is getting a full renovation, and the electrical work is where it starts. Daniel stripped out all the old wiring, planned the new power point locations with Kylie on site, and roughed in the new cabling ready for the trades that follow.

The process

HOW THIS REWIRE IS RUNNING

STRIP OUT THE OLD WIRING

Every run of old cable in the bathroom came out, right back to the frame. The old wiring wasn't worth saving, and a renovation is the one chance to do it properly instead of patching around it.

PLAN POWER POINTS WITH THE OWNER

Daniel walked the room with Kylie and decided exactly where the power points are going, around the vanity, mirror and appliances she's actually planning to use. Ten minutes of planning saves years of extension cords.

ROUGH IN THE NEW CABLING

New cabling is roughed in to every planned point while the walls are open. Everything is positioned, protected and ready, so the trades that follow can work without anything electrical in their way.

FIT OFF AFTER THE OTHER TRADES

The job now waits on the plasterer, tiler and cabinet maker. Once they're done, Daniel comes back to fit off the power points, lighting and switches, then tests everything and issues the Certificate of Electrical Safety.

What's next

DOWNLIGHTS AND SMOKE ALARMS

While the bathroom is underway, Kylie and Daniel have been talking about the rest of the house: swapping every light over to matching LED downlights for a consistent look and lower running costs, and upgrading the smoke alarms to bring the whole home in line with today's standards.
