PLAN THE LAYOUT
We talk through where you need power and how you want the space to feel. Good lighting planning at this stage saves changes later, we take time to get it right.
INSTALL CLEANLY
Cables are run in-roof or in-wall where possible. Downlights are positioned accurately and power points are set at the right height and location first time.
TEST EVERY CIRCUIT
Each new circuit is tested before completion. All work is covered by a Certificate of Electrical Safety and our 5-year workmanship guarantee.
ADDING POWER POINTS AND LIGHTING PROPERLY
Adding outlets and lights looks simple and mostly is, provided the circuit it joins can carry it and the route is planned before anything gets cut. Most jobs are a half day. The work worth paying attention to is what happens above the ceiling and inside the board, because that is where a tidy job and a shortcut look identical from the room below.
CIRCUIT LOADING
There is a practical limit to how much you can hang off one circuit. A kitchen with a kettle, toaster and microwave on the same 10A run will trip. Adding outlets sometimes means adding a circuit rather than extending one, and that is a board question before it is a wall question.
RCDS ON ALTERED CIRCUITS
Under AS/NZS 3000, extending a circuit means that circuit has to be RCD protected. On an older board without safety switches, adding a couple of power points can trigger board work. Better to know that at quote stage than halfway through.
DOWNLIGHTS AND INSULATION
Downlights need clearance from ceiling insulation unless they are rated to be covered. Batts pushed back over a non rated fitting is a genuine fire risk and one of the more common things found in roof spaces. We fit IC rated fittings and keep the clearances right.
LED DIMMING
Most flickering dimmer complaints are a compatibility problem between the dimmer and the LED driver, not a fault. Matching the two at the start avoids the callback. If you want dimming, say so before the fittings are chosen.
DOUBLE OUTLETS AND USB
Replacing a single outlet with a double is usually the same labour for a better result, so it is rarely worth keeping singles in a kitchen, bedside or home office. USB integrated outlets are convenient but they date faster than the wall they sit in, so they are best used sparingly at bedsides rather than throughout. Weatherproof outlets outside need the correct IP rating, not an indoor unit under an eave.

Will LED downlights save me money?
Yes, LEDs use a fraction of the power of halogens and last far longer, so they pay for themselves over time.
Can you add a power point anywhere?
In most cases, yes. We'll find the neatest, safest route and keep wall damage to a minimum.
Do you install ceiling fans?
Yes, supply and install, including replacing an existing light fitting with a fan or fan light combo.
Can you add power points without cutting up my walls?
Often yes. We assess the ceiling cavity and wall structure to find the best cable run. In most cases we can keep patching minimal or avoid it entirely.
What's the difference between LED downlights and surface lights?
Downlights sit flush in the ceiling and give clean, spread light. Surface-mounted fittings are easier to install in areas without ceiling access. We can recommend based on your space.
