EMERGENCY ELECTRICIAN MELTON
Sparking outlet, burning smell, safety switch that won't reset. If something electrical has you worried right now, call Daniel directly on 0435 056 256, describe what's happening, and he'll tell you whether it's dangerous and how fast he can be there.
One important thing first: if you can see flames or smoke, or someone has been shocked and is unwell, call 000 before anything else. For everything short of that, this page tells you what to do.
IS IT ACTUALLY AN EMERGENCY?
CALL 000 IF THERE'S IMMEDIATE DANGER
Flames, smoke, a person shocked and unwell, or fallen power lines are jobs for emergency services, not an electrician. Get everyone out and call 000 first.
TREAT THESE AS URGENT
Sparking or scorched outlets, burning smells from the switchboard, buzzing from walls or fittings, water leaking into electrics, or a safety switch that trips instantly on reset. Switch the circuit off and call.
THESE CAN USUALLY WAIT A DAY
A single dead power point, a light that won't turn on, or a switch that trips once and then holds. Still worth fixing promptly, but nobody needs to panic tonight.
MAKE IT SAFE WHILE YOU WAIT
Turn the affected circuit off at the switchboard if it's safe to reach, unplug whatever was in use, and keep people and pets clear. Never remove the switchboard cover, that's where licensed work starts.
HOW EMERGENCIES ARE HANDLED
DTW Electrical is one licensed electrician, Daniel, not a call centre with a fleet. That means no dispatcher promising a 15 minute arrival they can't deliver. When you call, genuine emergencies jump the queue, and Daniel tells you exactly when he can be at your door.
Hours are Monday to Saturday, 7am to 6pm. For faults that genuinely can't wait until morning, after hours visits can be arranged. If your problem can safely wait, Daniel will say so and save you the urgency premium other outfits would happily charge.
WHAT HAPPENS ON SITE
FAULTS THAT CAN'T WAIT
The calls that get priority, and where each one usually leads.
Burning smell or sparking
A failing connection generating heat. The circuit comes off, the fault gets traced, and the damaged wiring or fitting is replaced.
02Switchboard won't reset
A safety switch that trips instantly is doing its job against a live fault. Older boards without RCDs on every circuit usually need upgrading.
03Water into electrics
Storm damage, a burst pipe or a roof leak into fittings. Made safe immediately, then tested and repaired once everything is dry.
04Whole circuit dead
Half the house without power points or lights. The break gets traced to the exact cable or connection and properly repaired.
WORRIED ABOUT A FAULT?
Call now and speak directly to Daniel. He'll tell you if it's dangerous, what to switch off, and when he can be there.
EMERGENCY CALLOUT FAQs
Is this a 24/7 emergency service?
No, and you won’t be told otherwise. Hours are Monday to Saturday, 7am to 6pm, with after hours visits by arrangement for faults that genuinely can’t wait. If it’s life threatening, call 000 first.
What counts as an electrical emergency?
Anything that could hurt someone or start a fire: sparking or smoking outlets, a burning smell from the switchboard, exposed live wiring, water into electrics, or a safety switch that trips instantly every time you reset it.
What should I do right now, before you arrive?
Switch off the affected circuit at the switchboard if it’s safe to reach, unplug whatever was in use, and keep everyone away from the area. Don’t touch scorched outlets and never remove the switchboard cover.
When should I call 000 instead of an electrician?
If you can see flames or smoke, if someone has received a shock and is unwell, or if power lines are down, call 000 first. An electrician handles the fault, emergency services handle the danger.
How fast can you get here?
Call and describe the fault, and Daniel will give you an honest arrival time on the spot. Genuine emergencies get priority, and many faults can be made safe over the phone until he arrives.
Will the repair be certified?
Yes. Emergency work is made safe first, then repaired properly, with a Certificate of Electrical Safety supplied where required and a 5 year workmanship guarantee on the work.
