The process

NEW BUILD ELECTRICAL PROCESS

01

ROUGH-IN STAGE

We work with your builder to run all conduit, cables and boxes before plasterboard goes on. Inspections are coordinated so no stage is held up.

02

FIT-OFF STAGE

Once plastering and painting are complete we return to install all fittings, switchboards, power points, lights, smoke alarms and fans, all to spec.

03

INSPECTION & CERTIFICATE

Work is inspected and a Certificate of Electrical Safety is issued. We liaise directly with your builder to keep the schedule on track from start to finish.

What is involved

NEW BUILD ELECTRICAL, ROUGH IN TO HANDOVER

New build work runs to the builder programme, which means two scheduled visits and a testing stage rather than one job. Rough in goes in once the frame is up and before the plasterer, fit off happens after painting, and the final testing and certification closes the job out ready for inspection. Coordination matters more than speed on this work.

ROUGH IN

Cable routes, points, lighting positions and the switchboard enclosure all get set at rough in. Anything not planned at this stage becomes a retrofit later. This is also the moment to pre wire for data, an EV circuit or a future shed, which costs very little now.

FIT OFF

Once linings and painting are finished, the accessories go on, the fittings get hung, the board is populated and everything is labelled. Careful work matters here because the finishes are new and marks are obvious.

TESTING AND CERTIFICATION

Every circuit is tested for insulation resistance, polarity, earth continuity and RCD operation, and the results recorded. A Certificate of Electrical Safety is issued on completion. That paperwork is what an inspection and a bank valuation both want to see.

BUILDER OR OWNER BUILDER

We work either way. On an owner builder project you get more say and more decisions to make, so it helps to talk through the points list and the lighting plan early rather than mid rough in.

PRE WIRE WHILE IT IS CHEAP

The cheapest circuit you will ever install is the one run before the plaster. Conduit to the garage for a future car charger, a data run to the study, a spare circuit to where the shed will eventually go, and a lighting point over the island bench all cost very little at rough in. Every one of them is a wall cut and a patch after handover, which is why the list is worth thinking about early.

Common questions

NEW BUILDS & FIT OFFS FAQs

Can you wire to my house plans?

Yes, give us the plans and we'll mark up the electrical, then talk through any extras worth adding while it's easy.

Should I plan for solar or an EV now?

It's much cheaper to allow for them at build stage than retrofit later. We'll build in the provision so you're ready.

Do you provide compliance certificates?

Yes, every new build is certified to Australian electrical standards on completion.

Do you work with owner-builders?

Yes. Owner-builders are welcome. We're used to coordinating with other trades and can work around your schedule as the build progresses.

Can you provide an electrical plan as part of the quote?

We can work from your existing architectural plans and advise on power point placement, lighting circuits and switchboard sizing. We'll flag anything that needs consideration early.
